PV (photovoltaic) modules turn the energy of the sun directly into electricity with no moving parts. They typically have a 25 year warranty, and can be expected to last 30 to 40 years. Because there are no moving parts, there is no maintenance aside from occasionally cleaning off the dust.
Modules are tempered glass to resist breakage (they are tested for 1" diameter hail). We prefer modules made in the USA for most of our jobs, rather than Chinese made modules that many companies use.
There are two types of PV systems -- grid tied, that feed electricity directly into the grid, running your meter backwards during the daytime, and battery based, which sells power to the utility, but also provides backup power from batteries if the grid goes down.
We also have extensive expertise in off-grid remote PV systems, having designed many, and lived with them for years.
